HITS prides ourselves as a local interpreting and translation service provider in the Highlands and Moray offering a local language solution. We employ locally based interpreters and translators because we think it makes every sense.
From a cost-effectiveness viewpoint and also an environmental one, travelling time and expenses are kept to a minimum, thereby minimising costs and environmental impact. Whilst face-to-face interpreting remains the much preferred and more appropriate form of interpreting for effective communication, getting someone to travel long distance to do this is simply not cost-effective and environmentally responsible.
From a socio-economic viewpoint, we believe in investing in local talents and the local economy by providing work and training opportunities for those who live and work in the Highlands and Moray.
Last but not least - from a proficiency viewpoint, we strongly believe that local knowledge and understanding of local systems and institutions is one of the prerequisites for interpreters and translators to do their jobs properly and competently. Linguists who do not live or have not lived in Scotland simply do not have the same level of knowledge and understanding as local ones, which is crucial for effective communication. |
